Victory over AEK in the Super Cup semifinal

Olympiacos beat AEK 93–80 in the Super Cup semifinal in Peristeri and now await their opponent in Sunday’s final (September 27, 19:00 CET), which will be determined by the semifinal between PAOK and Panathinaikos.

Donta Hall was our team's MVP, who finished the game with 19 points and 7 rebounds. Montero added an excellent performance with 19 points and 5 assists, while Vezenkov contributed 14 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists.

Before the game began, a minute silence was observed in memory of Soulis Markopoulos. Giorgios Bartzokas started the game with Miller-McIntyre, Dorsey, Ward, Vezenkov and Hall, and our team took a 9-point lead (16–7), with Sasha Vezenkov scoring 7 quick points. Donta Hall dominated under the basket scoring 7 points before making way for Antonis Karagiannidis.

Tyler Dorsey picked up where he left off in Vitoria, and with his second 3-pointer of the evening made the score 26–13 for the 'red & whites'. The first quarter ended with our team leading by 10 points (28–18), as Olympiacos looked to lay the foundations for victory from the very start.

In the second quarter, Olympiacos had a strong 3-minute spell thus extending the lead to 20 points. However, the 'red & whites' completely lost their way towards the end of the quarter. Bartzokas’ players committed one turnover after another, allowing AEK to cut the deficit to 9 (46–37) by halftime.

After the break, Olympiacos initially looked much more focused, and a 3-point barrage from Tyler Dorsey once again pushed the lead close to 20 points (65–47) by 25'. Sasha Vezenkov then took over, making a series of excellent decisions and leading the team offensively. However, AEK refused to give up, and with Tsalmpouris reaching 16 points, they reduced the deficit to 12 points (74–62) at the end of the quarter.

In the final 10 minutes, Jean Montero came out firing, and his shots helped Olympiacos increase their lead. AEK used a number of long-range shots to cut the deficit once again, even bringing it down to single digits, but the Dominican guard was unstoppable and gave AEK no chance of completing the comeback. The game ended with Olympiacos winning by 13 (93–80), with Hall and Montero finishing as the game’s joint top scorers with 19 points each.
