'Red & white' dominance of the EuroLeague statistics
Olympiacos completed the EuroLeague regular season in 1st place with a 26–12 record, reaching the top of the standings for the third time in the last four years. However, this was not the only 'red & white' achievement in this year’s regular season.
Olympiacos’ success was the result of team effort, but through their consistency, Giorgos Bartzokas’ players managed to claim top spots in several statistical categories, despite playing fewer minutes compared to many of their competitors. Vezenkov and Milutinov were two of the pillars of the team this season and dominated the statistical charts, finishing first in three individual categories.
Specifically, Sasha Vezenkov was the league’s top scorer with 19.4 points per game and won the Alphonso Ford Trophy for the second time in his career. At the same time, he also led the league in performance index rating (PIR) with 23.1. In that same category, Olympiacos had another player among the best, as Milutinov finished the season with an average PIR of 20.1.
Nikola Milutinov excelled in rebounding, as he was the league’s top rebounder with 7.1 boards per game. His dominance was even more evident in offensive rebounds, where he averaged 3.1 per game during the regular season.
At the same time, Tyler Dorsey was the top three-point shooter in the EuroLeague. The guard ranked first in total made three-pointers, as his 103 made shots from beyond the arc placed him at the top of the list, tied with Francisco of Zalgiris.
As for team records, beyond finishing first with the best overall record, Olympiacos also had the best point differential (+/–) in the EuroLeague, at +262. Notably, Real Madrid had the next best figure, at +186.
In addition, Olympiacos had by far the best performance in assists. With 819 assists in 38 games and an average of 21.6 per game, Bartzokas’ players excelled in ball movement. Thomas Walkup was the team’s top playmaker this season, averaging 5.9 assists per game, ranking fifth in the EuroLeague.
