Lountzis: «I didn’t really need to think about it!»

Hard work was what led Michalis Lountzis to Olympiacos and through that – as he tells to olympiacosbc.gr – he will be doing all he can to help the ‘reds’ realize their goals.

“I’m very happy to be a part of Olympiacos. I was really excited that a team of that level got an interest in me, so when the offer came I didn’t really need to think about it. It was something I wanted to happen so I immediately said yes”, the 23-year old guard says.

And goes on: “Each athlete works hard in order to always get better, so at some point they can be given a chance to play at the highest level. The same goes with me. I have worked a lot and I’m happy that after last season with Promitheas, a team that helped me evolve, I got an offer from such a big club”.

Asked with who he got to talk immediately after signing his three year contract with the ‘reds’, he replied: “The first people I told were my parents and my girlfriend. I had of course talked with them about the offer from Olympiacos and what would be the best move for me, but as I said before, the decision wasn’t hard to make…”

About which his goals in view of the new season are, he said: “My personal goal is to continue improving and evolving as a player, and through that process to help the team achieve its goals. I have talked to coach Bartzokas and he has laid out for me what it is he needs from me. What remains on my part is to work hard and vindicate him”.

Finally, he did not omit sending his message to Olympiacos’ sixth player: “I can’t wait to play in front of the fans of Olympiacos! Due to the coronavirus, the fans were absent from the arenas, but I’m optimistic that this season things are going to be different. So, I hope we have our fans by our side and that with their support we can achieve our goals. What I can promise them on a personal level is that I’m going to be working hard to help Olympiacos with everything I’ve got”.
