A loss in details for Olympiacos against Real Madrid in the Super Cup final

Olympiacos lost to Real Madrid 89–93 in the EuroLeague Super Cup final, leaving Abu Dhabi as the runner-up in the inaugural edition of the new competition.

Sasha Vezenkov led the team in scoring with 22 points, while Donta Hall also made a strong performance with 13 points and 4 rebounds.

Giorgos Bartzokas started the game with Miller-McIntyre, Dorsey, Ward, Vezenkov and Hall, with the EuroLeague MVP scoring Olympiacos’ first points of the final. Real Madrid made the better start, using their transition game to take an 8–4 lead midway through the opening quarter.

Shortly after the TV timeout, Olympiacos levelled the game at 11–11 through a basket by captain Kostas Papanikolaou, who was making his season debut. However, Real Madrid immediately responded in transition, while Olympiacos struggled offensively, allowing the Spanish side to take a 9-point lead at the end of the first quarter.

The 'red & whites' initially appeared to control the third quarter. Led by Miller-McIntyre and Vezenkov, they took a 5-point lead (65–60), but Real Madrid found answers from beyond the arc. Deck hit back-to-back threes to change the momentum once again. With Ward, Vezenkov and Hall all in double figures, Olympiacos eventually closed the quarter within one possession at 72–75.

Real Madrid started the last quarter strongly and once again built a double-digit lead (72–82), with little seemingly going Olympiacos’ way. Led by Vezenkov, the European champions made one final push to turn the game around.

However, Montero stepped out of bounds on a crucial possession with the gap at just two points. Then, in a controversial sequence, Real Madrid secured an offensive rebound through Campazzo before Feliz scored to seal the victory.
