A win over Aris maintains a perfect record in the GBL
Olympiacos, although challenged for one half, overcame Aris, defeating the Thessaloniki team 92–81 and securing their 23rd win in as many games in the Stoiximan GBL.
Top scorer for the team was Nikola Milutinov, who finished with 16 points and 11 rebounds, while Olympiacos had six players in double figures (along with Ntilikina, Vezenkov, Dorsey, Peters, and Fournier) and made a total of 15 three-pointers.
Giorgos Bartzokas started the game with Walkup, Dorsey, Papanikolaou, Vezenkov, and Milutinov, and even before tip-off, Olympiacos' fans gave a standing ovation to Kostas Papanikolaou, who reached 800 appearances with the club. The start of the game was not good for Olympiacos. Aris, with excellent perimeter shooting, took 6p. lead (8–14) before the TV timeout.
Igor Milicic’s players continued their impressive performance in the second half of the first quarter and extended their lead to 12 points (11–23), before Olympiacos reduced it to eight (15–23) with a buzzer-beater by Alec Peters at the end of the quarter.
In the second quarter, the scene changed. Monte Morris returned to action after a muscle spasm and scored his first points, while Nikola Milutinov was dominant for Olympiacos, recording 10 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 assists in 13 minutes.
Despite continuing to struggle with shooting, Olympiacos tied the game, with the first half ending at 40–40.
In the second half, Alec Peters started in place of Sasha Vezenkov and immediately made an impact in the offense. The American forward became the second player in double digits for the team, and Olympiacos upped their level at the same time. Tyler Dorsey hit two consecutive three-pointers, while Thomas Walkup made it 57–47 from the corner, giving Olympiacos their first double-digit lead of the game.
At that point, Olympiacos lost focus for about thirty seconds, and Aris went on an 8–0 run to cut the lead to a single basket. Then Kostas Papanikolaou hit a three, and Frank Ntilikina added his 3rd triple to restore order. Olympiacos closed the quarter at +13 (71–58).
In the final quarter, Nikola Milutinov was once again dominant, completing a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds, while Sasha Vezenkov and Evan Fournier heated up from beyond the arc, making a total of 5 threes.
Olympiacos eventually secured the win by 11 points, prevailing 92–81.
