Bartzokas: «We are all very happy for Omiros»
Giorgos Bartzokas commented as follows in the post press conference after Olympiacos’ victory over Mykonos for the 24th round of the Stoiximan GBL.
In his opening statement about the game, the Olympiacos coach said: “I would like to thank our many fans who came today with their families to enjoy the game; and that’s exactly what happened. Both Mykonos and Olympiacos, for a large part of the game, played more for the show than for substance, but that resulted in good plays and high shooting percentages. The defenses were nothing special, as you can understand, and ultimately the fact that we won and the fans enjoyed it was very important. I would like to wish Mykonos, after this year’s success of staying in the league, even greater achievements ahead, and as for us, there is no need to call on our fans for Tuesday, because the game is already sold out, but we want their strong support as we enter the final stretch of the season and every game is particularly important.”
When asked about Omiros Netzipoglou’s performance, the coach replied: “We are all very happy within the team about his performance. He's an extremely positive asset for our team. He works hard every day, and as a result he has improved a lot individually, while also making the players he guards better. At this level and in these teams, there are things that are visible, like his performance today, and things that are not visible, which are often very important. Personally, and all of us, we are very pleased; he has shown the work he puts in on the court. Of course, we already knew this, but for him, the fact he has the ability to put out a game like this and produce these numbers in 21 minutes, is very important for his confidence and enjoyment. We are very happy for him.”
When asked how he feels about the plans for the new SEF and the surrounding area, Giorgos Bartzokas answered: “It’s fantastic! I know that Bayern also wants to do this. Barcelona, where I have worked, had done this. I remember that basketball games would end and then people would go to watch football. If there isn’t a long gap in between, like today with the football match, someone can come and watch both, or even follow the water polo team, which is very strong, both the men’s and women’s teams, especially now that a swimming facility will be built here. What I mean is that it’s fantastic. The only thing I wish is that I am still here to experience it, even for just one day, as Olympiacos’ coach. But even if I am not the coach of Olympiacos, I would still be very happy to come as a fan. From the renderings I’ve seen, the new SEF will be impressive.”
