Statement by the Presidents of Olympiacos BC

Dimitris Giannakopoulos has been definitively found to be a defamer, even hiding behind “shell” companies.

More specifically, by decision no. 1237/2026 of the Athens Court of Appeals (Three-Member Panel), issued on the lawsuit filed by Dimitrios Angelopoulos, the memory of his father and our uncle, Angelos Angelopoulos, is fully restored as a distinguished economist who made a decisive contribution to the country’s economic reconstruction.

After nearly 13 years, Justice has put an end to a deliberately distorted version of historical truth, ruling, with overwhelming reasoning, that the articles dated 17.07.2013 and 29.07.2013 published on the website “newsbomb.gr” regarding alleged “collaboration” were false and defamatory. As proven, not only was there no “cooperation with the German occupiers,” but on the contrary, our uncle Angelos Angelopoulos took part in the National Resistance and later played a leading role, already from 1944, in claiming the so-called “occupation loans.”

The most decisive element of the ruling is also that it definitively dismantled the orchestrated attempt by Dimitris Giannakopoulos to hide behind offshore “shell” companies in Belize and Cyprus, along with various complex corporate structures he himself created in order to avoid civil and criminal liability for his unlawful actions.

The Athens Court of Appeals ruled conclusively that Dimitris Giannakopoulos was not merely a simple or nominally involved party, but the person who effectively gave the order for the drafting and publication of the unfounded defamatory claims against our late uncle, as the ultimate owner and the one who truly controlled, directed, and decided the operation and content of “newsbomb.gr.”

There is therefore absolutely no doubt that the anonymous defamatory publications that tarnished the memory of Angelos Angelopoulos were not accidental, but rather part of a deliberate and malicious campaign initiated and directed by Dimitris Giannakopoulos himself, with the aim of publicly discrediting and degrading our historic family.

The truth has been restored. The defamer has a name.
