Darden: I want to set an example both on and off the court

The American guard decided to join Olympiacos after a 1.5 seasons with Real Madrid, where he took part in 2 Euroleague finals, won a championship, a Spanish Super Cup and a Spanish Cup. In his first interview as part of the team, the 32 year old guard explains to olympiacosbc.gr why he decided to join the organization: «It was a huge opportunity for me. Having played in both Real and now Olympiacos, two truly great teams, I feel blessed to have reached such a level», while he later added: «The fans of the team are great and have great love and passion for the team, so I am grateful to be a part of Olympiacos great history and basketball tradition».
What will he bring to Olympiacos? Well the answer was easy: «I want to set an example both on and off the court. I will give my everything whether it's in practice, in a game, in a shootaround. I want to bring toughness and grit to the team, but also peace and unity. I want to bring my virtues, the ones that I live by everyday. I not only play basketball, but I am, first and foremost, a basketball fan. I'm not coming to Greece with a giant ego; I'm coming with the intention of letting the coach guide me through the whole process».
We asked the American player to analyze this season's team with him, Lafayette and Hunter on the Roster: «When I learned about Olympiacos' interest in me I was shocked. I couldn't believe it. Olympiacos is a great team and they're just looking for some minor improvements, mostly in the details.Spanoulis is this team's leader and everyone in Europe knows this.Printezis has his role and he's the leader inside the basket. I played with Matt in Belgium and with Lafayette in Zalgiris, so I know them both well. Dunston and Petway are really athletic, Mantzaris and Sloukas are really intelligent when it comes to basketball, and Hunter, who I don't really know, is really strong. I believe that team chemistry is the most important thing and I think we have the right tools to win. I can easily adapt to a team or a situation and I believe that with Olympiacos I'll be able to show some things that I hadn't been able to in the previous years. When you have Spanoulis on the team, others get more chances».
