Bartzokas: "Congratulations to the players and the fans"

The coach of Olympiacos, Giorgos Bartzokas, gave due credit following the comfortable win against Bayern.

“First of all, I would like to thank the players and the fans for a very important victory in my view. I was really worried before this game, Bayern is really tough team. They proved that by beating Efes, and also Alba on the road. We expected a very hard game, which did not finally materialize, thanks to our performance. It was a very good defensive performance on our part and we had the chance with our facilitators to ‘read’ what exactly it was they were giving us in offense, scoring 50 points in the first part. Our team had a truly great performance for 32-34 minutes, however, what counts, regardless of the difference, is the win. We need to continue this way, because the schedule is quite pressing. We play against Villeurbanne in less than two days, they are a tough and athletic team and we need to focus on this game”.

On his part, Bayern’s coach, Andrea Trinchieri, pointed out: “On one hand, Olympiacos made an outstanding performance on both ends of the floor. They were better at everything, even at warmup… On the other hand, we made a very poor performance. We hand neither the mental, nor the physical energy to compete. Congratulations to Olympiacos, they deserved the win. I would like to say though, that when I talk about a bad performance, it has to do with a group of people, not just the players, but the coaches as well”.
