Walkup: «We should stop Unics’ transition game»

Unics, whom Olympiacos is playing against tomorrow (03/12, 17:00 CET) in Kazan, has six wins in its last seven games. However, according to Thomas Walkup, if the ‘reds’ succeed in stopping the Russian team’s transition game, they have quite good chances of coming back from Russia with a win.

“They have been obviously playing really well recently”, the American guard stressed. “They shoot with good percentages, play with a lot of strength and aggressiveness, so protecting the ball is of the utmost importance. Of course, we need to play very good defense. Unics is a very athletic team, they have speed, quick execution. That’s why, just like I said before, we must protect the ball, stop their transition game, be effective with our defense and force them to play five on five”.

When asked to choose the ‘key’ player for Unics, he said: “They have many players I could be naming. Definitely, their guards are always effective on a good night. That’s why I’m not going to talk about any one player, but I think that the key will be to keep all their guards from scoring a lot. That is going to be really important”.

As for what Olympiacos needs to be doing in offense, Thomas Walkup pointed out: “We must move the ball effectively. If we do that and go to good choices, everything is going to be fine”.
