Vezenkov: «We must give 100%»

Aiming to win his first game away from the SEF, Olympiacos flew to St. Petersburg, where tomorrow (12/11, 18.00 CET) will be facing Zenit, for the 9th Euroleague round.

“It’s a difficult game against a very good team that has proved its potential in the last season also as well as in this one”, the ‘reds’ forward, Sasha Vezenkov pointed out. “They have many good players, a very good coach and to win, we need to give 100% and be absolutely ready to follow our coach’s plan. I’m optimistic about this game”.

About what it is that he and his team mates need to do, so that they return with a win, he said: “We must control the game tempo and be very hard with our defense, because defense wins games. We have succeeded that at home, however, we are not as efficient on the road. Zenit has a lot of talent in offense, they have players that can score with many different ways. So, we have to secure the rebounds, play hard defense, contain them and follow the coach’s plan”.

Asked whether there is room for further improvement of the team, he replied: “Of course there is and we need to improve. It’s still very early in the season. It’s the 9th round of the Euroleague. We haven’t really shown anything yet. We are hungry and ready to win more games and get better. That’s why we only focus on the next game which is also the most important”.

It was the end of the '30s when the Olympiacos Basketball team was founded with players form the "Ionidio" School. Great personalities of Greek basketball wore the 'red' shirt, coaches wrote history, victories came and Olympiacos played a leading role inside and outside the Greek borders.
