Olympiacos has won the Greek Cup for the ninth time in his history but for the second time since the team is run by the Angelopoulos brothers, Panagiotis and Giorgos.

After the end of the winning game, the administrative leaders of the ‘reds’ spoke to the national TV cameras and then to all of the reporters present.

At first it was Mr. Giorgos Angelopoulos that addressed the audience: “We have edged Panathinaikos on three different courts this season and I believe we are heading for the Championship. Congratulations to all” and then the Club’s President Mr. Panagiotis Angelopoulos added: “In 10 days the Play-offs Finals will be beginning at the Peace and Friendship Stadium, tonight we may be celebrating, but we have to go back to practicing from Monday on. We have shown that we were among the best European teams this season. The series against Siena did not go our way; the players did not perform us they ought to. The team is capable of advancing, we are optimistic, next year the Final Four will be taking place in Istanbul, we like it there and we hope to be there and go after what we missed this year”.

Sometime later, the administrative leaders of Olympiacos spoke to all the Media representatives: “We have to beat Panathinaikos another three times, otherwise these three victories will mean nothing”, Mr. Giorgos Angelopoulos commented and Mr. Panagiotis Angelopoulos repeated: “We are entering the Finals in ten days if all goes well, so we celebrate tonight, we go back to practicing, Thursday we begin against Aris and we hope to play in a packed gym”.

As to whether they enjoyed the second cup more: “I had been thinking that this is the second one, but I actually enjoyed it more than the first one”, the President of the Club said and when asked why… “Because I’m an Olympiacos fan. Because I go nuts over the team”.

Mr. Panagiotis Angelopoulos also referred to the injury problems the team has been facing: “We played without our starting center, the best player to finish a play without dribbling in Europe, Vassilis Spanoulis, and without Panagiotis Vassilopoulos, the rest that actually played showed they have guts”.

Mr. Giorgos Angelopoulos gave in turn credit to the Olympiacos players: “The team has been believing in its potential, we have not been successful in the Euroleague for reasons that are not to be discussed at present, the team believes in itself and we believe in the team, we have told them so and we have also told you so. They are the two best teams in Europe and the fans enjoyed good basketball. The fans have been great. As in the Peace and Friendship Stadium, the same tonight, the Olympiacos fans have been great and that’s a positive thing” and the Olympiacos President Mr. Panagiotis Angelopoulos added: “The way the measures worked, each team could have had four, five thousand people by their side, it’s a pity the Panathinaikos fans hadn’t been here as well”.

The administrative leaders of Olympiacos enjoyed the success but that is as far as it goes: “We savor the moment, we are happy, and we continue” Mr. Giorgos Angelopoulos commented before Mr. Panagiotis Angelopoulos spoke again: “We want to win the Championship and we believe we are going to get it, in the summer we are going to follow the necessary politics according to where we live in and the shaping situation”.

Finally, about whether there is danger to lose their interest in case they win the championship, Mr. Giorgos Angelopoulos once again commented: “We have not won one championship yet, we have won nothing”.

It was the end of the '30s when the Olympiacos Basketball team was founded with players form the "Ionidio" School. Great personalities of Greek basketball wore the 'red' shirt, coaches wrote history, victories came and Olympiacos played a leading role inside and outside the Greek borders.
