Bartzokas: «We made major defensive tactical errors»

Olympiacos coach Giorgos Bartzokas did not look for excuses after his team’s home defeat to Monaco.

“Obviously, it was a bad game for us. We made many poor decisions both defensively and offensively,” he said, and continued: “We had very poor three-point shooting percentages, even though some of those shots were completely open. When you allow your opponent to score 92 points in your own arena, clearly something has gone wrong. But that’s the EuroLeague; tonight we lost. In two days, we have another game, so we must forget about this one and prepare ourselves to play much better on Friday.”

When asked whether his players lost focus, he replied: “We made major defensive tactical errors. I can’t really explain it. While we were supposed to be switching on defense, we didn’t; Monaco had a 5-second inbound play, and we committed a foul, giving them free throws. We made very bad decisions at key moments when the momentum could have shifted in our favor. Several of our players performed below their usual standards. But that’s how it is in the EuroLeague; if you’re not focused, calm, and playing as a team, you can’t win.”
