A defeat in Milan

Olympiacos, who had the support of about 700 of his fans in Milan, failed to expand his invincible streak. The team lost in Milan to Armani 83-62, for the 26th round of the Euroleague.

Thanks to good long range shooting, the Italian team got to lead 10-4 at 5’, but the ‘red & whites’ – despite their many turnovers (5 for none of Armani) – relied on their good defensive game and did not allow the hosts to widen the margin. On the contrary, a three-point play by Kostas Papanikolaou (bucket and one) gave them the lead at 9’ (14-15).

However, the fouls committed by the front line (Fall had 2 before even five minutes were played, while Black made another two in the first 7:35’’ he was on the floor) caused additional problems for Olymiacos, that was already having troubles finding rhythm in the offense. At the same time, Armani once again found target from the three point line and got a +6 lead for the first time in the game (35-29). However, Giannoulis Larentzakis made the score 35-32 with a three and that was the score that marked the end of the first half.

Nothing worked for our team though in the second half. Armani took advantage of the sub-par defensive game by the ‘red & whites’ and with Billy Baron leading the offence, they got to a 15p. lead (51-36 at 25’) and then at 20p. (66-46 at 31’) following a … rain of threes. Our players fought to turn the game around (70-56), but their shooting was way out of target subsequently failed to do so.

The quarters: 20-17, 35-32, 61-46, 83-62.
