Olympiacos ‘demolishes’ Virtus

Olympiacos ‘dismantled’ Virtus Bologna at the SEF 117-71 for the 12th round of the Euroleague and returned to winning in emphatic fashion.

The triumphant win was accompanied by three records. That of most points scored in a Euroleague game (117), best index, (159 (the previous one was 141 and was recorded on November 21, 2077 against Prokom) and that most assists dished, a total of 33 (the last one being 29 assists in the game against Gran Canaria on December 21, 2008). Also, the ‘red & whites’ tied the best performance in threes. They made 18, just as many as they had made on November 26, 2021 against Armani Milano.

Playing a superb defensive game and with excellent percentages from the three point line, the ‘red & whites’ began with an 11-0 streak and set the tempo. With Sasha Vezenkov and Isaiah Canaan leading the show, our team closed the first quarter at +16 (31-15), while, despite the radical over howl of the line up Giorgos Bartzokas proceeded with in the 2nd quarter, the rhythm remained the same… Olympiacos relying on his excellent defense and with Kostas Sloukas and Alec Peters leading the offense, got to send the difference to +26 (51-26 at 16’) and maintained it through the end of the first half (61-35).

The outlook of the game did not change in the second half. Fall continued dominating the post, Vezenkov continued scoring with every means available and the distance separating the two teams came to 32 points (71-39) at 24’. The Italian team was hopelessly trying to close in, since the tight defense of the ‘red & whites’ left little room for that (84-55 at 30’). Coach Bartzokas followed the exact same plan of the first half and completely changed the line up into the 4th quarter… He was vindicated for his decision… Defense was still rock solid, when at the same time Shaquielle McKissic was uncontrollably scoring (+40, 99-59 at 33’). With 2 for 2 free throws Bolomboy got to break the 100 point barrier, at only the 34th minute of the game (101-59), while with one out of two free throws by the same player the ‘red & whites’ sent the difference to its maximum level (+47, 117-70 at 39’).

The quarters: 31-15, 61-35, 84-55, 117-71.
