Ready for the coronation!!!

Olympiacos beat Panathinaikos at the OAKA 78-72, and is now leading the finals series 2-0, which means that a win at the SEF on Friday (17/06, 20.00 CET), will be crowning him as the Greek Champion!

Both teams were nervous at the beginning (6-6 at 5’), however, two quick fouls that Thomas Walkup (3’) and Moustapha Fall (5’) made obviously took a toll on our team, that nevertheless, closed the first quarter only trailing by 1 (21-20) thanks to its good perimeter percentages (6/8 during that time). The second quarter though was catastrophic. Gaps in the defense, bad decisions in the offense, lost rebounds and missed lay-ups (!), allowed the hosts to set the tempo and ‘built’ a +14 lead (46-32).

Contrary to the above, Bartzokas’ players played a perfect game in the third quarter and turned the situation in their favor once and for all. With a seminar worthy defense, good ball movement and excellent choices, they succeeded to take a +7 lead after running a partila 23-2 (48-55 at 26’). The ‘reds’ got to lead even by 11p. (63-74 at 35’), however, hasty choices and missed shots allowed the ‘greens’ to close in at 4p. (72-76), 42.9’’ before the end. The solution was provided by our team’s good defense, while the final 72-78 was written by Kostas Sloukas who made both his free throws at the time.

The quarters: 21-20, 46-32, 56-61, 72-78.
