Olympiacos went on being undefeated and only hours following the triumph against Galatasaray in Istanbul, the ‘reds’ easily bested Ikaros Chalkidas 99-61.

The players of Giorgos Bartzokas found motivation from the beginning of the game and never gave the guests a chance.

The Greek coach gave Vangelis Mantzaris a … day off and used Ioannis Papapetrou instead, who only unfortunately was really unlucky since moments before the wrap up of the first half took a blow in the nose and left the gym with a double fracture. The international Greek forward was immediately transferred to the hospital where he made all necessary medical tests and his broken bone was set in place.

As for the game, the only thing to be said is that it was a one team show. Stratos Perperoglou and Bryant Dunston were the host’s MVPs who thus reached an easy 3/3 record for the Greek League and 8/8 in their official games of the season.

QUOTES

GIORGOS BARTZOKAS: “The basic characteristic of the game is that it was held without spectators. We don’t have the luxury to let any day pass without effort. We had the opportunity to give minutes and at the same time best our opponent who was coming from two very good performances. What upsets us is that Papapetrou got injured and did not have the chance to have some game time. There is not much to tell about the game. I’m also a fan of peripheral city basketball; I hope Ikaros does well in Chalkida”.

CENDRICK SIMMONS: “The coach told us before the game that we have to find personal motivation. His words got into our heads and we got a comfortable win. It was a good game for us, in terms of work done in our defense. We have good offensive players anyway. We played good “hands out” defense in both the ‘4” and “5” positions and we are happy to have gotten the victory so as to be ready to move on with our next opponent”.
