Great contribution for children by OPAP on the occasion of 33rd Athens Marathon

The citizen’s response to OPAP’s call to take part in the “Route of Contribution” it created on the occasion of the 33rd Athens Marathon was impressive. Thousands of people and runners that used the “Route of Contribution” application for a second consecutive year had the opportunity to play and run, contributing through their participation to the project of renovating the country’s two largest pediatric hospitals, “Aghia Sophia” and “Aglaia Kyriacou”.

Exceeding 82.590 downloads, 516.809 euros were gathered from all the actions which OPAP automatically turned into economic aid which is only one part of the company’s total investment for the renovation of the hospitals. The project OPAP implements in the framework of its Corporate Social Responsibility Program has already begun to beat fruit with the delivery, on November 4, of the first part of the project which involved the full renovation of two floors of the hospitals.

For four weeks, everyone took part in the application’s 9 challenges which gradually “unlocked” increasing the amount of the contribution. In fact, on the day of the Marathon the application users could increase the amount simply by checking-in why all visitors to OPAP’s kiosk in the Sponsors’ Village could also contribute through participation in the actions carried out.

Mr. Petr Matejovsky, Chief Marketing Officer of OPAP awarded Dimitris Theodorakakos and Demosthenes Evangelides at OPAP’s kiosk, the 2nd and 3rd winners respectively of the 42 klm route. He characteristically stated:

“OPAP supports the 42 klm route of the Athens Authentic Marathon since 2011. This initiative proves our commitment in practice to the promotion of sporting ideals and the values of sport. On the occasion of this historic event we created the “Route of Contribution” encouraging people to participate and support this important initiative of ours for the renovation of two children’s hospitals, “Aghia Sophia” and “P. & A. Kyriacou”. A few days ago we delivered two fully renovated floors. We feel proud of the work done so far and it is our honor that people embraced and welcomed our efforts”.
