A defeat in Belgrade

Olympiacos did not succeed in getting his third back to back road win. The ‘reds’ lost in Belgrade to Red Star 76-81 for the 14th day of the Euroleague.

Olympiacos made a lukewarm beginning in the game, which the hosts took advantage of and relying on their good perimeter percentages got to lead by 7p. (17-10) at 7’. Our team put pressure in defense and with Hassan Martin leading the offense, got to close in on two points (21-19 at 12’), however, the Serbian team steadily maintained the lead up until 16’ (32-28). With a partial 8-0 Olympiacos got the lead for the first time at 19’ (34-35), while a three by Kostas Sloukas allowed the ‘reds’ to close the first half leading 36-38.

‘Striking’ from the distance, our team increased the distance (39-44), but did not succeed in containing Nikola Kalinic. The Serbian forward was unstoppable and not only he managed in keeping Red Star in the game, but also put him back in the driver’s seat (56-53 at 30’). The fourth quarter turned into a derby with the two teams exchanging the lead in the score (69-69 at 36’). In the following three minutes though, the ‘reds’ did not project clear thinking when attacking, they missed a lot of free throws and allowed the hosts to lead by 8 (78-70) at 39’. Tyler Dorsey fought to turn things around (80-76), but it was already late…

The quarters: 19-15, 36-38, 56-53, 81-76.
