Tolis Spanos, twice Champion of Greece with Olympiacos, lost the battle with cancer at the age of 66, making the ‘red’ family poorer.

Tolis Spanos, twice Champion of Greece with Olympiacos, lost the battle with cancer at the age of 66, making the ‘red’ family poorer.

The veteran play-maker of Olympiacos had been a member of the teams that won the Greek Championship in 1976 and 1978, as well as four consecutive cups in the 70ies (1976, 1977, 1978, and 1979).

He played for Olympiacos from 1968 and for 15 years under the direction of Fedon Mathaiou and Kostas Mourouzis and being team mates with some of the emblematic figures in the history of the basketball team. Players like Giantzoglou, Kastrinakis, Diakoulas, Melini, Rammos, Efstratiou, Makis and Stavros Katsafados.

Tolis Spanos will be watching his beloved Olympiacos from above together with always remembered Giannis Spanoudakis and Fedon Mathaiou.
