"Mondays Games against COVID": statement by the Presidents

The Presidents of Olympiacos BC, Panagiotis and Giorgos Angelopoulos, talked about the importance of the “Mondays’ Games against COVID” program.

“It’s a very important initiative”, Mr. Panagiotis Angelopoulos stressed. “Tonight the first game was played. The games are friendly held for charity purposes. We wish to thank ERT for supporting this effort. It’s an opportunity for Greece to watch our team on a free channel, because not everyone has had the chance to watch it. We are happy to be able to offer to society through this initiative. I believe it’s going to be beneficial for our team as well. We may have been playing friendly games, but a friendly game watched by the whole of Greece carries a different weight, the organization is different… It’s good for the team”.

On his part, Mr. Giorgos Angelopoulos stated: “We have also been victims to the coronavirus. Now everyone has recovered. I think that no matter how much you get to do in times like these, it’s still not enough. I hope that others follow this example. Sports and society are one”. When a very big monetary donation he and his brother had made during the first wave of the Pandemic was brought up, he said: “Yes, we had done something… We are in this fight from the start”.

Asked about how they assess the team’s course up to now, Mr. Panagiotis Angelopoulos said: “We have been doing good, except for the home loss against Zalgiris in the first game, a game we should have won. The team is competitive. I believe that making the top 8 is realistic. From that point on, there are no home courts as we can see. Most gyms are empty, but not all of them, as they should be. So, all results are open in every court”. Mr. Giorgos Angelopoulos commented: “I think we are doing very well. We are optimistic”.
