Olympiacos BC & Superbet: The Press Conference
Olympiacos BC and Superbet officially unveiled their long-term partnership during a press conference held on Wednesday, July 8. Club Presidents Panagiotis and Giorgos Angelopoulos were joined by Superbet Greece General Manager Giannis Kalamvokis and the company's Marketing & Communications Director, Kyriakos Fourniadis, to mark the beginning of the collaboration.
The event also featured two major surprises for Olympiacos fans. First, the club unveiled one of its new Nike jerseys, before revealing on the back the name of Jean Montero, who was simultaneously announced as the newest member of Olympiacos on a three-year contract.
Giorgos Angelopoulos: "Thank you all for being here today. We are delighted to welcome Superbet to the Olympiacos family. This is a major 6-year agreement that will run through 2032 and is arguably the largest sponsorship deal in the history of Greek sports, across all disciplines. We are extremely happy and proud. Deals of this magnitude are not completed in a matter of days. It is important to emphasize that our discussions began before Olympiacos was crowned European champion, which makes this partnership even more meaningful. It reflects Superbet's confidence in our organization and in our long-term project. Based on its achievements over the last 15 years, Olympiacos has been the most successful basketball club in Europe, and I believe that played a significant role in today's agreement. It is particularly important that this partnership was established before we reached our most recent sporting success. We share common values and principles with the Superbet team. Like Olympiacos, they are driven by ambition and the desire to reach the highest level. I believe these next 6 years will mark the beginning of a remarkable partnership, one that we hope will continue well beyond 2032 and expand into many different areas. Welcome to the Olympiacos family."
Panagiotis Angelopoulos: "I would also like to warmly welcome Superbet to the Olympiacos family. This is a significant 6-year partnership, but the duration alone is not what matters most. What truly matters is that we have found a partner with vision, ambition and a genuine desire to grow together. The timing could not be better. As Giorgos mentioned, this agreement was reached before we became European champions, and now our partnership begins with Olympiacos at the top of Europe. Of course, that is not enough for us. Our ambition is to win many more European titles. As Coach Bartzokas said, winning this year's League title has relieved some of the pressure, but it has also made us even more motivated for the future. Superbet joins us at the beginning of what will be a historic new chapter for the club. Whether it takes 4, 5 or 6 months is ultimately of little importance when you are building something that will shape the next 50 years. The timing of this partnership is exceptional. I would like to thank Superbet for placing its trust in us, and I hope our collaboration will continue to grow across many different fields."
Giannis Kalamvokis, General Manager, Superbet Greece: "I would first like to publicly thank the Presidents. At our very first meeting, they welcomed us by saying, 'Welcome to the Olympiacos family.' That was much more than a polite gesture; it was a genuine expression of trust, and I sincerely thank them on behalf of everyone at Superbet. I would also like to thank Nikos Lepeniotis for his professionalism, consistency and the positive atmosphere he fostered throughout our discussions. Congratulations are also due to Coach Bartzokas, the players and everyone within the organization, who proved that talent, dedication and hard work can take you to the top of Europe. When a sponsor partners with a club, it is never just about placing a logo on a jersey, regardless of how prestigious that may be. It is a two-way relationship. The sponsor chooses the club, but the club also chooses the sponsor. Superbet did not choose Olympiacos simply because it is a great club. We chose an organization that has consistently demonstrated that lasting success is built on integrity, long-term planning and hard work. We believe those are the same values that led Olympiacos to choose Superbet. This is far more than a sponsorship agreement. It is a mutual commitment between two organizations that share the same values, mindset and ambitions, while constantly aiming higher. Although our agreement runs until 2032, we see that date merely as the first milestone in what we hope will become a lasting relationship. On behalf of Superbet, I want to assure everyone that we will stand by Olympiacos not only in moments of success, but also through every challenge, because that is what true partnerships are built upon."
Kyriakos Fourniadis, Marketing & Communications Director, Superbet Greece: "Thank you all for joining us today. As Giannis mentioned, what makes this partnership particularly meaningful is that Olympiacos and Superbet share the same ambition and the same objectives. We hope these next 6 years will be highly successful for both organizations. For us, the most important aspect of this sponsorship is giving it genuine substance. We have several exciting seasons ahead of us. Beginning in September, we will launch a number of initiatives together with Olympiacos, including fan zones, contests and unique experiences for supporters. Since entering the Greek market, Superbet has consistently invested in Greek sports, and today we are proud to officially become part of Greek basketball alongside Olympiacos. September will also mark the launch of our Corporate Social Responsibility program, through which we intend to create a meaningful and lasting social impact. Responsible gaming and full compliance with iGaming regulations remain fundamental priorities for Superbet, and these values will be reflected in many of the initiatives we will introduce in the coming months."
Asked about the importance of Jean Montero's arrival, Panagiotis Angelopoulos said: "We are delighted that Jean will be with us for at least the next 3 years. I honestly cannot think of another player his age making such an impact in European basketball. Even in the game we lost in Valencia this season, when much of the discussion afterwards focused on whether Evan Fournier had committed a foul, we saw a young player whose passion and competitiveness were extraordinary. It's also important for our fans to know that many top European clubs wanted to sign him. One of Jean's very first questions during our conversations was whether Coach Bartzokas would remain with the team. We answered that he would. All of this happened before we won the EuroLeague."
Responding to a question regarding the renovation of the Peace and Friendship Stadium (SEF) and the club's temporary home venue, Giorgos Angelopoulos commented: "It is still too early to provide a precise timeline. Preparatory work has already begun, and we hope the main construction phase will start as soon as possible. The renovation will most likely be carried out in two phases, and we expect the first phase to be completed within the next few months. Olympiacos will therefore need an alternative home venue for part of next season. Discussions are ongoing, although no final decision has been made yet. We expect to have more information in the coming weeks."
