Roberts: “I stopped thinking about the NBA thanks to Olympiacos”

Brian Roberts talked to olympiacosbc.gr and explained that the Piraeus team made him stop thinking about the NBA.

The American play maker was clear from the start and when asked about how he felt when he heard about the Olympiacos offer, he answered that "I was expecting to see what will happen with the NBA teams. I was free and knew that I would be getting offers. I was on waiting mode and then came the offer from Olympiacos. Everything changed inside of me, this offer and the prospect of playing for Olympiacos caught my attention. When the offer came, I immediately stopped thinking about the NBA".
Then, the conversation he has had with coach Sfairopoulos, practically closed the deal between the two parties. "I talked with coach Sfairopoulos and he explained what my role on the team was going to be, how the organization works and what it is I can get, but also, give to the team. It was then that I was sure I was going to accept the offer".

Roberts, however, had already talked with people he trusts about what Olympiacos stands for in all kinds of levels. "I talked with Kyle Hines, a player I completely trust, a serious professional and person with whom I had played with for Bamberg and he had played for Olympiacos. It's true that Kyle had only good things to say for Olympiacos. Only good things and he urged me to say "yes" to the team".

The 32 year old play maker talked next about the image he has shaped about the Piraeus team. "Olympiacos is at the top level for many years now. If you only look at the last six years, you will see that they have won the Euroleague twice since 2012 and they were the competition finalists two more times. That is, in six years, they have played the Euroleague final four times and they have wont he trophy twice. So, what better could had I asked for than getting this offer in my hands?" he wondered before stating to be excited about wearing the 'red' shirt for the next two seasons. "I am really looking forward to playing alongside players like Spanoulis, Printezis and the rest of the guys. I have played in Europe for quite some time and I know McLean, Strelnieks and Tillie. I think we have the potential to do something good this season".

Finally, the former Charlotte Hornets' player wished to be introduced to the Olympiacos' fans. "I play with passion, just like they are passionately singing in the stands. I still remember them from the games I played there with Bamberg. I'm a good passer and I have a good shot, so that is what the fans can expect from me. But mainly, they should be expecting passion and the will to win in every game".
